Had a great opportunity to help out a local lacrosse team as well as build something I've wanted to build for some time now.....a custom mobile cooler. The coach came to me with a few requests: Needs to be mobile, loud and microphone input. He showed me some examples of some mini coolers that had speaker holes cut into them and BAM, done.....well that's not what Trax Customs is about. He had no idea what I was doing, just knew what he'd be getting.....so if he was expecting a basic unit, he was MORE than surprised when he saw this :) Took a basic large cooler and started cutting into it. Made a mold of the front, then custom arranged the speakers so they'd cover a 130 degree angle in front of the cooler, as well as to properly fit them on that small of a footprint. Then I started cutting into the top to make the pro audio tweeters as integrated as possible. Among other surprises, I molded in a removable solar panel charging system....so if the game is playing later or earlier in the day, they can remove it and angle it as needed to keep charging the system while it's not plugged into a 120v. Which is built into the system, and a simple plug into a wall outlet and the system will then be charged back up. For control, I used a Dual Electronics headunit that has USB/iPod controls, front aux input, bluetooth, weather-band radio and rear mic input. A Blues Audio 4 channel amp was placed within the cooler to power the 8 speakers with 200 watts of pure power. A Sound Quest car audio battery was placed inside to power the system. Blues Audio woofers and Bass Inferno Pro Tweeters are what's cranking the tunes out. System internals are covered with a simple shelf with metal grill to allow proper air flow. Put a carbon fiber plastic panel with school Lacrosse logo in the center to tie everything together. This was a fun one...been on my list for a LOOOONG time. Basically started with some speakers I pulled out of Project Evo X....Rockford Fosgate 6.5" coaxial doors. Now, I could have saved a BUNCH of time by switching to different speakers, but these were free and sounded great when powered by the amp I selected....which was $40 from my supplier. The problem with the speakers is that they had a ridiculous mounting system (twist on, instead of bolt on). So I modified how it mounted and we're good...only problem is that it's a 1.75" tall speaker once mounted.....problem solved. Once I got everything fabricated, it was time to test fit it on a shelf that was in the living room (no way was I going to fabricate this on a ladder while straining my neck. Note to self: All interior corners in a house are NOT created equal....or perfect 90 degree corners. Found a sweet Jack Daniels shirt and used that for the form....added two layers of glass....few of body filler and we were getting closer. Never have I done a flush ring before...so this is how it usually happens (I gotta do it on my own things first)....so we gave it a shot....turned out damn good. Once the textured paint dried, I did two coats of the exact interior paint....pre-drilled holes and ran wire throughout the bathroom. Once everything was dry, mounted them to the ceiling and BAM....we have sound. Overall thoughts? They sound 'OK'....but what can I say..they are OEM car speakers, in small pods. They have plenty of power....but that's why I got the 4 channel amp. I'll be taking the front woofers from the Evo X and making those into a mid/sub bass system I'll mount under the sink...should provide some decent low end and make the bathroom sound better than anyone's bathroom really should! That's the point though :) I'll post more when they start showing up across the interwebs....but here are some from the owner...
Got the helmet back after a few days.....owner wasn't able to get as much body work done as we would have liked...but with the crazy deadline ahead, he had to push forward and paint it. He did paint it with Plasti-Dip, so it can all peel off and some serious body work can be done before the next closest Deadmau5 concert. So my task was to mount all the lenses, lights, helmet and wire everything. Mounted the eyes first and secured the EL panels behind them. Then test fitted the hard hat into place before a combo of glue, fiberglass resin and expanding foam were applied. Then I secured the face plate and fabricated a temporary mount for the mouth lights. After all of this, everything needed wired up and secured. There were 3 main battery packs that needed mounted, as well as another smaller pack for the EL wire. I got everything wired up and gave it back to the owner....he was going to install the EL Wire. This project was a pretty good experience.....can't wait to finish it up down the road and make it SHINE!!! Introducing Project tRZRax......get it (Trax and RZR put together)(ok...I'm done)#FacePalm
After a few months of dealing with issues that needed to be fixed, I FINALLY have this badboy in my shop. Plan is: Full Custom Fiberglass Audio System Upgrade Memphis Audio Media Hub with iPod, Aux, Sat, etc inputs Memphis Audio 5 Channel Marine Amplifier Memphis Audio 6.5" Speakers in custom fiberglass kick panels Memphis Audio 6.5" Speakers in custom fiberglass overhead box Memphis Audio 10" Subwoofer in customer fiberglass center box New Odyssey battery to power everything Potential Upgrades: :) :) :) Custom LED Headlights Custom LED Light Bars Misc Smoking of lights Possible Painting of other parts Interior LED Additions??? So, stage 1 of this build is obviously disassembly; which was very difficult tonight, as I had about 4 appointments all lined up at the EXACT same time. So I got all of this done in an hour...and I feel comfortable moving forward with preliminary fiberglass fabrication. Ok......so this one was an interesting one.
Had a past client come in with an idea...just needed help putting it into physical being. He wants to be Deadmau5 for Halloween. Only problem is, without spending a bunch of money online, you can't find these helmets just laying around. I gave him my recommendations (which were make the damn thing sturdy enough to last for many parties down the road) and we went into action. Since SEMA was coming up, and I had another big project coming in (see later pics), I could only take it so far....and was rushed to get it to the stage it was when it left the shop. Owner is going to do the body work and another painter is going to finish the helment. Then....if time permits....the helmet will be back here and I'll assist with the wiring and completion of the helmet. So far, i'm happy with what I've done in only a few short (working) hours. Here are some One-Off Custom 100% Plug-n-Play Projector Foglight/LED Turn Signal and LED Side Marker Lights......World First Products custom made for a past client that now has all Trax Custom's Plug-n-Play lighting on his car....only one like it in the world.
What was installed: Custom LED Matrix/Grid for Parking lights and Turn signals Blazer Halogen Projectors All into the stock light housing VERY Thin/Small LED lights into the side marker lights All the lights have stock bulb adapters soldered into place so the client can simply remove his old lights, plug the new ones in, bolt them back in and be done......hassle free....simple. It's all in a days work...as they say.
Got about 6 hours into these......if I were to do them again, i'd do them differently, but for what they are, I didn't want to spend any more time. They actually sound pretty damned close to what they sounded like in the tuned boxes....which was saweeet!!! Next year I'll have a giant pumpkin to put a subwoofer in and then we'll be golden. For now....that'll do pig....that'll do! Finally found time to complete these bad boys.
This was a budget build, so it didn't turn out 'completely stock' looking like I wanted it to, but I've already got a few orders in on these, so THEY will at least look like they should. Lights turned out great and are super cool looking when they light up. Got to Project Liberty today.
2003 Jeep Liberty Pioneer Deck Install with Steering wheel controls retained and Bluetooth Arc Audio XXD 5 channel amplifier Infinity 6.5" Component Speakers up front Arc Audio 6.5" XXD Coaxial Speakers in the rear Arch Audio 10" XXD Subwoofer in a sealed carpeted box 4 gauge amp kit to make sure everything has enough power Jeep sounded good once everything was tuned and the customers left with a smile on their faces...so a success! Cheers! So, instead of bypassing the Pioneer DVD players you most people do (by adding a switch on their dash somewhere) you can simple add a relay to it...and BAM...you're done!
So this way, the Pioneer will automagically bypass the stock DVD playback setting everytime instead of having to flick a swtich! Cheers Previous Client called, was moving down to Arizona and needed some tunes in his van!
Deck install with new speakers...all used equipment but everything worked perfectly, sounded good and customer was more than happy. I forgot to snap pics of speakers installed, but I got a pic of the old equipment Cheers! Forwarded this to our graphic design/screen printing guru....haha, I don't even know if she knows that's what we're calling her yet!
I'll hopefullly have this printing out in a few days...pretty cool design for about 10 minutes on Photochop!! Trax Customs is now an official installer on Car Audio and Electronics Magazine Online.
This site/magazine has been around for sometime now, and this is the go-to place for all your car audio and electronic needs, how-to's and much more. It's an honor to be up on there site, and we'll hopefully see the benefits from it soon! http://caraudiomag.com/installers_directory?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=installers_directory So I guess all I needed to do was actually open the door to the Evo last night to get some ideas rolling again. I've been so busy lately that I haven't even had time to think about Project Evo....just see it everyday I head off to work...that's about it. So last night, I poked my head inside the cabin for about 30 seconds and BOOM.....I already had ideas that needed to go on paper and other ideas to work out in my mind. Custom fiberglass door pods; front and back, with backlit LED/Plexi windows showing off brands and logos. That's about as far as I got, but the trunk is a whole other monster. I know what needs to be done, just need to figure out where to put everything...small trunk, too many stock access panels, and not enough room to put everything....we'll figure it out. Stay tuned for more updates!
My canvas: Front Doors Rear Doors Was sick this weekend, so I didn't get much done. Hooked up a customer on his old Alpine deck. He wanted an Aux input on his Alpine, and had been using an FM Modulator. He didn't know about the Ai-net port that's on the backside of the deck, so I hooked it up for him and he was happy as a clam. Yet, this also describes how I dislike Apple so much. Everything is iPod based (which is nice if you're one of the billion iPod fans) but for everyone else, all you can do in this market is to plug in your mini-jack headphone plug into an aux input port and JUST play music. With iPod specific decks, it will charge your iPod and display the music tracks over the deck's display.....pretty nice, if you like iPod. What about Blackberry or Droid owners? They have cool phones too, with plenty of music on them. Oh well, Apple is doing their job at cornering the market. At least there is still satellite radio and bluetooth out there for all other phone owners. Oh, and Pioneer is starting to introduce Pandora integration into their new decks...so all other music fans that love Pandora will not be able to access their playlists/channels IN their cars......take that Apple!
Finished up Arc Yoda last night. Swapped out the old Hifonic amp to a new XXD Digital Mono amp, and wired the subs (which we put in a new, bigger box) to 1 ohm, so they are both seeing the full potential. System sounds great, footprint of the amps are way smaller than what he had before, and they look great too. All in all, the customer is happy, and I'm sure we'll be seeing him back for more.
Arc Amps Installed Arc Amps Lit up The last of the parts came in yesterday, so tonight I'll be finishing up the Arc Yoda. Loading the woofers in a bigger, better box. Installing an XXD mono amp to supply the woofers the power they crave. Installing crossovers and tweeters with the rear speakers. Should do the job! Stay tuned!
Finally got some free time, so I decided to open up the taillights on Project One-Off Solsti. Only too about an hour to get them open; alot more time consuming than opening headlights, but this way it won't melt the plastic on the taillights, since they are easily meltable. Placed the LED board I had in mind, into the assembly and they were much brighter than expected, but since they didn't reflect off the stock taillights assembly, the stock bulb is brighter ONLY where it counts: right center in the middle, where it was designed. Back to the drawing board as far as how to lay out a new LED board and integrate the PWM into it. Keep checking back for updates.
Fab'd up and finished the wiring on the Rag's boat. 10 super bright waterproo LED pods were attached to the underside surf deck by a custom made bracket. These little guys should do the trick. Normally newer boats that have these types of options only have 3 to 5 LEDs......so 10 is more like something Trax Customs would do. Naturally! Wired everything up to the battery and put it on a switch in the glove box. Now if only Rags could remember to turn it off each time, so the batteries won't drain :)
Arc Audio had a few products on backorder, and the XXD 1500 was one of them. Chad was a man of his word and got it shipped out this morning for me. Great company, great product, and even greater service!
Rags got the custom light bar fab'd up yesterday. We're doing 10 of the smallest and brightest LEDs you can put underwater without a heatsink! These little guys should brighten up the water at night (maybe even during the day). Going to do a test fit tonight and final wiring. Then look out for pics soon. Nothing car related to post. Hung a 27" Samsung LCD in the master bedroom last night. Power and cable were already pre-ran while house was a skeleton; so that made it easier. Just had to run Audio/Visual wires for a DVD player. Used a low-profile wall mount that has a safety lock on it so the TV won't fall. All-in-all it looked good, got it up off the floor and hides all the wires! Mission Accomplished....without Tom Cruise!
There has been alot going on lately with Trax Customs and the owners.
Travis has relocated his workspace to his new 3 bay garage. Now he's ready for even more projects with all of that room. Ryan and his wife just welcomed their new son, Ryden, into the world. Expect to see Ryden working for Trax soon, as I'm sure he'll take after his father and start picking up wrenches very quickly. All this being said, this is why there haven't been many updates; but don't worry, we'll give you your fix. So just stick around and we'll keep posting more and more photos and whatnot. |
